What do the shelters have? A lot.

The shelter at Kovalam is very spacious and airy by design in order to maintain healthy environment as we have a number of animals are under the same roof. Our shelter houses 100+ animals currently that are leftovers of the stray dogs and cats birth control and mange treatment program. Those animals who are too old or weak to fend for themselves or have a permanent injury like paralysis or skin disease are housed in our shelters where they will live the rest of their lives in peace.

Quality of Care is very important for us and we do a number of quality checks and maintain high standards here.

shelter for dogs

The shelter for dogs is an open space with adequate room for them to move around and just be themselves. These animals are segregated by temperament and size within this area. Dogs are territorial and tend to fight with each other if their space is invaded upon. We take great care to ensure this space is not overcrowded and the animals are not stressed. We have also installed bathtubs and running water supply for the volunteers to give the animals their weekly or monthly bath.

shelter for cats

The shelter for cats is one of its kind (probably in the world) which is a natural and airy place to live and thrive. These eco friendly huts are made of natural material spanning over two floors for the cats to bask in the natural weather and also adequately protected from any harsh weather like heat or rains. They can move on various perches and climbing places which cats are naturally inclined to do.

Any new arrivals are quarantined in a separate section that is fully enclosed with meshes where they are monitored for 1 or 2 weeks before being integrated into the main section.
